One of the most complex systems that humankind has created is Commerce. From our ancient origins of fighting to the death over the coolest stick, trading became the generally preferred method of ownership transfer. Eventually, placing a set value on shiny rocks helped mediate worth. When carrying shiny rocks became burdensome, we replaced the actual rocks with metal disks that represented shiny rocks, which gave way to paper, which eventually disappeared entirely into credit, where society decides how many shiny rocks a person might be worth. But now the system is so convoluted and make-believe that we just boop our cellphones onto a shopkeep’s register like a Phoenix-Feather Wand from Olivander’s and the price simply vanishes. But what happens when you bop a muggle register? Did you forget to bring shiny rocks? Join Veronique and Mat as we ward off the magic and cash out of Apple Pay!
