Guest Grumbler: Allyson Boate

Since the dawn of civilization, humanity has stared toward the heavens, calculating the movement of the stars in an attempt to predict the repeated rise and fall of our most important star. The sun’s rhythm, though, is awkwardly syncopated. What’s not so obvious is that we’re what’s wobbling. Somehow we have settled on there being 24 spans of a fictional unit of time: hours. And, as we all know, the most convenient way to count to twenty-four, is to count to twelve, and then just start over again. And, lo, no problem has ever arisen from there being two 10:00 o’clocks in every single day. For any issue that arises, one has merely to check whether the sun has crossed over the legendary ‘Prime Meridian,’ or not. Synchronize your watches with Mat, Veronique, and guest – Allyson Boate – as we race against time to uncover the thirteenth hour.
